June 15, 2022AMA (NSW) has extended its congratulations to the doctors in NSW who have been recognised for their contributions to medicine in this year’s Queen’s Birthday Honours.
AMA (NSW) President, Dr Michael Bonning said the awards acknowledge the significant commitment these outstanding doctors have made both to their specialty and to patient care.
“It’s pleasing to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of our colleagues particularly given the challenges the profession has faced during the pandemic,” Dr Bonning said.
AMA (NSW) was pleased to see the inclusion of NSW Chief Health Officer, Dr Kerry Chant, who recently received the AMA President’s Award from AMA President, Dr Omar Khorshid. Dr Chant was recognised in the Queen’s Birthday Honours for her distinguished service to the people of New South Wales through public health administration and governance, and to medicine.
Dr Chant is joined on the list by AMA (NSW) members:
- AM Emeritus Professor Leigh Delbridge (significant service to endocrinology and medical education)
- AM Dr Louis McGuigan (significant service to rheumatology and community health)
- OAM Dr Michael Asher (service to the Indigenous community and medicine)
- OAM Dr David Hammill (services to medicine and community)
- OAM Dr Peter McGeoch (service to sports medicine)
- Dr Smita Shah (service to community health)
- Prof Stephanie Louise Watson (service to ophthalmology)
- Dr Richard Dunstan – (posthumous for service to medicine as a paediatrician)
“I want to thank the doctors on this list and the countless others that make quality patient care a priority and continue to work for a better health system in NSW and Australia,” Dr Bonning said.
