Despite knowing skin cancer risks, young people still sunbake
January 2, 2016AMA (NSW) / ASMOF (NSW) Alliance welcomes new doctors to state’s hospitals
January 18, 2016AMA (NSW) President, Clinical Associate Professor Saxon Smith, says the shooting at Nepean Hospital is a high profile demonstration of the dangers faced by health workers.
“Doctors, nurses, paramedics, and other hospital staff often come into contact with threatening situations in the course of doing our jobs.
“It’s important to remember that it’s not just hospital settings where health workers can face these kinds of dangers.
“GPs, paramedics, and other health workers in the community are not immune to this.
“We are very grateful for the strong relationship we have with police and security guards and the support they provide during these kinds of events,” Clin A/Prof Smith said.
“Police and security guards help make hospitals the safe places they are.
“It’s a testament to the high quality of their work that events of the magnitude of the Nepean shooting are very rare,” Clin A/Prof Smith said.
“I wish the police officer and guard injured in the attack at Nepean Hospital a speedy recovery.
“And I’d like to thank the both of them for putting themselves in harm’s way to protect the hospital staff and patients at Nepean,” Clin A/Prof Smith said.
