June 7, 2023Subject: AMA (NSW) & Blue Light Card Australia launch the #Move2Improve Common Room Challenge at Concord Hospital
AMA (NSW) President, Dr Michel Bonning, will be at Concord Repatriation General Hospital in Sydney tomorrow to kick off the #Move2Improve Common Room Challenge, brought to doctors by AMA (NSW) and Blue Light Card Australia.
AMA (NSW) and Blue Light Card Australia have partnered to give doctors-in-training the opportunity to win a makeover for their hospital’s common room.
Five NSW hospitals have been selected via submitted applications: Concord Hospital, Hornsby Hospital, The Tweed Hospital, Gosford Hospital, and Liverpool Hospital. These five hospitals will be competing in a fitness challenge, logging their daily activity and movement from Thursday 1 June 2023 at 10am until Wednesday 7 June 2023 at 6pm.
An exercise bike has been placed in each of the hospitals for the duration of the challenge for extra motivation. The hospital to ‘move’ the most by the end of the challenge will be rewarded with a range of prizes such as brand-new kitchen appliances, furnishings, fresh pantry staples, and more.
The campaign was created in response to the feedback from the for AMA (NSW)’s 2022 Hospital Health Check survey about the importance of good facilities for doctors.
“Medicine is a difficult career,” says Dr Bonning.
“The support and comradery of colleagues is an important part of improving wellbeing. While we know there are many other challenges facing our hard-working doctors, we want to find positive ways to support them.”
Dr Bonning states in addition to feedback about facilities, many doctors-in-training complained about it being difficult to access healthy food, particularly during night shifts.
The #Move2Improve Common Room Challenge is part of AMA (NSW)’s advocacy for better working conditions for doctors-in-training and providing opportunities to make their work lives easier.
