AMA (NSW) President: start of lockdown can’t stop another record quarter for emergency department activity in NSW
June 17, 2020AMA (NSW) President: absolutely no time for complacency on coronavirus
July 8, 2020AMA (NSW) President, Dr Danielle McMullen, is asking everyone to treat travel warnings issued for interstate journeys with the same gravity they would advice about international travel.
“State leaders are using similar language to that used by the Department of Foreign Affairs on international travel when there are safety issues overseas.
“As such, people in NSW and Victoria should treat it with the same sort of seriousness, particularly while there is a significant increase in coronavirus cases in Melbourne.
“As the experience in Melbourne has shown, COVID-19 is very hard to contain.
“We all need to remain vigilant to stop its spread and travelling to and from hotspots is something that’s being recommended against.
“We’ve worked very hard to get to this point and it will be wasting a good deal of sacrifice on the parts of many if we lose control of coronavirus in more places.
“This goes double for people thinking of travelling from hotspots to rural or regional areas.
“If you get sick or make other people sick outside of major centres, there may not be the medical support you or they need locally.
“So, please, if this sounds like your travel plans, reconsider your need to travel,” Dr McMullen said.
