October 7, 2021AMA (NSW) acknowledges the services of Premier Gladys Berejiklian.
“While the AMA did not always agree with all decisions of the Berejiklian Government, the medical profession respected the Premier for ensuring that health advice was considered throughout the State’s COVID response,” said AMA (NSW) President, Dr Danielle McMullen.
“She also ensured Dr Kerry Chant and the other Deputy Medical Officers played significant roles in the daily briefings and providing transparent health advice to NSW residents.
“As medical practitioners, we understand the challenges of weighing up complex information and making critical decisions that will impact on people’s lives. Ms Berejiklian showed strong and decisive leadership through this pandemic, and she should be
recognised for that contribution.”
Dr McMullen also acknowledged Ms Berejiklian’s accomplishments as a woman in politics – she presided over a Parliament that reformed NSW’s abortion laws and showcased the importance of visible female leadership. AMA (NSW) encourages the Coalition Government to continue to prioritise advice from health experts as the pandemic continues.
“The NSW health system is just managing with COVID numbers and care needs to be taken
to continue to act in measured and informed manner,” Dr McMullen said.
