AMA (NSW) President: latest report shows another backward step in hospital performance as emergency presentations break records
June 1, 2016AMA (NSW) President: NSW patients and hospitals can’t afford complacency on health care
June 8, 2016AMA (NSW) President, Prof Brad Frankum, is welcoming the State Government’s new safety regulations on cosmetic surgery.
“Patient safety is paramount and these new regulations will improve safety for people who undergo these kinds of procedures.
“Cosmetic surgery, just like any other kind of surgery or medical treatment, has the potential for unintended outcomes and should not be entered into lightly.
“Greater regulation will provide additional safeguards for patients,” Prof Frankum said.
“AMA (NSW) advocated for increased regulation on cosmetic procedures and I’m happy to see the State Government has acted on our advice.
“Increased regulation on cosmetic surgery should not come at the expense of other work that can be done in rooms and this announcement appears to strike that balance.
“For example, people will still be able to go to a dermatologist and have skin lesions and potential cancers removed, outside of a hospital setting.
“At the same time, people undergoing more invasive cosmetic procedures performed by surgeons will be better protected,” Prof Frankum said.
