EXPLANATORY MEMORANDUM REGARDING THE PROPOSED SPECIAL RESOLUTIONS
Removal of term limit for Doctor-in-Training Director
In 2016, AMA (NSW) introduced the position of Doctor-in-Training Director to the AMA (NSW) Board. The position was created to ensure input from doctor-in-training members into the operation of the AMA. The position has been very effective and has become an important role on the AMA (NSW) Board. At the time of introduction, the DIT Board member was made subject to the same two-year term limit as other positions. It has been determined that two years is an insufficient term for the role, given the importance of developing and maintaining skills. It is therefore proposed to remove the term limit for the Doctor-in-Training Board Member. In recommending this change, the Board has noted the natural limitations inherent in a DIT position. The Board has also noted the requirement of the Doctors-in-Training Committee to review and approve the Doctor-in-Training Board Member on an annual basis.
