April 20, 2023AMA (NSW) expresses its deepest condolences to the family and colleagues of ambulance paramedic Steven Tougher.
AMA (NSW) President Dr Michael Bonning said the medical profession is deeply saddened by Mr Tougher’s death, which follows an attack on a medical practitioner in Tasmania last week.
Dr Bonning said doctors work alongside ambulance colleagues every day.
“We rely on their skills and expertise in caring for patients. Mr Tougher had been doing his job – caring for his community – when his life was tragically taken.
“Sadly, violence against healthcare workers is all too common an experience. There is no place for violence against healthcare workers.
“We recognise the deep distress this incident will have on his colleagues and those who sought to care for him. We stand in solidarity in this grief,” Dr Bonning said.
